“I have known Joe Brown for approximately 40 years. As the Director of the Maryland Olympic Development Program, I brought Joe onto our staff in the early 90s. His success with ODP led me to bring him on as my assistant coach for the East US Soccer Festival team (the former Olympic festival). This team went on to win the Gold Medal at the 1995 Fest.
I then watched Joe create two and run all aspects of two professional teams. First, the Delaware Wizards, where, in a short period of time, he showed both his management skills and coaching prowess in the professional arena. This continued when the Carolina Dynamo of the USL brought Joe away from Delaware to be President and Coach of the team. Both these ventures were great successes on and off the field. Joe’s success and leadership as a pioneer of the early days of the USL were impressive. I have often been asked about how to start up a league, club, or team. My answer is: “I have just the person to talk to,” and I send them to Joe.”

“I wouldn’t be where I am today without the guidance and belief of Coach Brown. From a young age all the way through high school, he consistently pushed me to become a better player, holding me to a high standard and never letting me settle for less than my best. Through his coaching and mentorship, I earned numerous State Championships and accolades as well as achieved my dream of playing NCAA Division I soccer at the highest level. More importantly, Coach Brown instilled in me the discipline, confidence, and love for the game that continue to shape who I am today. His impact went far beyond wins, awards, and statistics; he taught me how to lead, persevere, and continuously strive for excellence. The foundation Coach Brown built for me is something I now carry forward by giving back to the game, coaching youth players and helping develop the next generation with the same passion, standards, and values he modeled for me”

“When I think of Joe Brown Coach Brown, the words that immediately come to mind are pioneer, coach, leader, and entrepreneur. Nearly 35 years ago, Joe was my varsity high school soccer coach and one of the first “A” licensed coaches in the United States. At a time when soccer in the United States was still developing and fighting for mainstream recognition, Joe was already thinking bigger.
Today, soccer has become a multi-billion-dollar sport in this country , and Joe was ahead of that curve long before most people understood where the game was headed. More than anyone else in my life, Joe impacted my love for the sport of soccer. His passion, humor, intensity, and uncompromising standards set him apart from every other sports leader I encountered. He didn’t just coach the game ,he taught how to respect it, study it, and commit to it fully. Under Joe’s leadership, his high school teams won championships, setting a standard of excellence that few programs ever reach. Under his guidance, I went on to become an All-State high school player and earned a short professional playing career. But his influence extended far beyond my time on the field. Joe inspired me ,and hundreds of players like me ,to see soccer as more than a game. His impact lives on through the countless athletes whose lives and careers he helped shape. Joe went on to found and/ or lead multiple professional soccer organizations, including the Delaware Wizards and the Carolina Dynamo. His willingness to take risks, build from the ground up, and challenge the status quo helped shape the professional soccer landscape in the United States. Because of his influence, I moved into coaching and business roles across the youth and professional landscape, including with organizations such as the New York Red Bulls, Houston Dynamo, Jacksonville Armada, and 1904 FC. The foundation for all of that the mindset, discipline, and belief that soccer could be a serious profession in America , came directly from Joe Brown.
Joe Brown wasn’t just my coach. He was and remains a mentor, a teacher, and a lifelong influence on who I am as a player, professional, and person.”

“Growing up, playing soccer always felt like it was written in the stars. It was the first sport my parents let me try as they were avid fans themselves. I was fortunate enough to compete in a variety of extracurriculars: basketball, swimming, tae kwon do, dance. You name it and I did it! But when it came down to it, I only wanted to play soccer. It wasn’t just a sport to me; it was my calling. I was inspired by the greats and I dreamed of playing professionally. With the club soccer career I had, many believed I’d get to achieve said dreams. Yet growing up in the small state of Delaware, I was worried that limited exposure would hold me back - until the summer before my freshman year.
I was committed to play Division 1 collegiate soccer at Brown University in Rhode Island and I was both excited and intimidated by this next step. Lost on how to prepare for such a big leap in my career, I was grateful when Joe Brown reached out to me. He was launching a Pre-Professional team in my very own state, the Ospreys, that were set to play in the WPSL. I had long known of Coach Brown. He was the head coach of one of the state’s most successful high school programs. His name was attached to winning but he was also known for demanding excellence from his players. When I think of soccer in Delaware, I think of him. So when he invited me to be a part of his Pre-Professional squad, I didn’t hesitate!
Playing for Joe wasn’t always easy; it was hard work and required intensive focus. Like I said, he demands the best from his players and he knows how to bring out that best. The sessions he designed not only sharpened my technical abilities but they allowed me to understand the game. Under his guidance, I felt that I could read the game more effectively, play in different systems, and adapt to new environments. My first season with Joe gave me the confidence I needed heading into my freshman season at Brown.
Every summer after, I trained with Joe and competed under his leadership and we’ve remained in close contact. In my professional career today, I carry the lessons he’s taught me to every team I’ve had the opportunity to represent. I apply his lessons to my work, knowing that I’ll always have him in my corner as a mentor to advise me. Joe Brown is genuinely passionate about his craft and unwavering in his commitment to helping others who are ready to achieve their dreams!”

“Some may say that Joe Brown is “Old School” , but in Joe’s case that means purist and that is a compliment. I have known Joe for 40 years as a colleague, competitor and trusted friend. As a colleague I have often reached out to Joe for consultation and advice. As a competitor I always knew it was going to be hard going for my teams. His ability to assemble and organize talent coupled with the knack for innovation made me admire his tenacity to get a job done in the most meager of circumstances. Joe has been successful on almost every level of the US Soccer landscape and he proved over and over that any challenge of organization , infrastructure and funding can be overcome with the right people and approach.
As a friend, Joe embodies the Olympic ideal of competition. Playing against the beat to exude the top performers of his teams with absence of ego or pride. And, in that sense my hat was off to him when his sides bested mine. Always humble in-victory and gracious in defeat, I always came away with the feeling that we were in the fight together to help people and progress the game of soccer in this country. I am very excited to support Joe Brown in this next venture on consultancy. His wealth of knowledge and experiences is honed from “hands on “ time in the trenches. His ability to cut through the bullshit and provide practical solutions to problems for clubs, coaches, players and stakeholders will help everyone have a better experience in the game we love.”

“Joe Brown has long been regarded as one of the true original builders of professional soccer in the United States, an OG in every sense of the word.In the early 1990s, when launching and sustaining professional clubs required vision, grit, and a willingness to operate ahead of the curve, Joe was a pioneer. As the founder of the Delaware Wizards in the USISL (now the USL), he played a critical role in bringing professional soccer to markets that had never experienced it before. This was not theory or talk, this was real operating work at a time when the modern soccer infrastructure in the U.S. barely existed. What always stood out to me personally was seeing Joe’s work firsthand at Wizards matches.
Watching how his club was run, how the operation, matchday experience, and professionalism came together had a direct influence on me. A few years later, I implemented many of the same foundational principles under my own system in New Jersey with the SJB, adapting and building upon Joe’s model as a source of inspiration. His approach helped shape how I thought about sustainability, standards, and what “professional” truly meant in a developing soccer market. Joe was, first and foremost, a great operator. His approach was logical, disciplined, and at times appropriately cynical grounded in the realities of running a professional club rather than romantic ideas about the sport. That mindset allowed him to build sustainable structures while maintaining credibility across leagues, players, staff, and partners. Equally important, Joe carried himself as a total professional football man.
He understood the game from the inside, respecting the player, the coach, and the competitive environment while never losing sight of the business fundamentals required to keep clubs alive and growing. That balance between football authenticity and operational leadership is rare and is something Joe consistently demonstrated. Joe’s influence helped bring professional soccer to the masses and contributed meaningfully to the foundation on which today’s lower-division and developmental leagues are built. His impact extends beyond the clubs he ran, his work influenced others who followed, myself included, and helped set standards that still matter today. Anyone working with Joe Brown is engaging with someone who has been in the trenches, understands the realities of the game, and has earned his reputation through action not opinion.”

“As both a parent and the leader of the institution that hosted the USFT Sports ETR Training, I am proud to share my experience with this exceptional program. Under the ownership and direction of Joe Brown, USFT Sports stands out not just for its elite soccer training, but for its unwavering commitment to the holistic development of every participant.
Joe Brown’s philosophy is clear: the well-being of each child comes first. He and his staff go above and beyond to ensure that every camper is placed in the environment best suited for their growth—not just as athletes, but as individuals. The camp’s approach is rooted in genuine care, focusing on the physical, mental, and emotional preparation needed for the college journey.
Throughout the camp, I witnessed staff members who were deeply invested in the success and happiness of every child. They provided expert coaching, but more importantly, they served as mentors and role models and acted as guides through during the college selection and recruitment process for any child who had the opportunity to play at the collegiate level but didn’t have the familial understanding of the demands that were being placed on the athletes. The curriculum balanced rigorous physical training with education on nutrition, mental resilience, and leadership. Campers learned how to manage stress, set goals, and support one another—skills that are essential for thriving in college and beyond.
The impact of USFT Sports ETR extends far beyond the soccer field. Joe Brown’s dedication to doing what’s right for each child, rather than what’s easy or convenient, sets a new standard for youth sports. Our students left the camp not only better prepared for collegiate athletics, but also more confident, self-aware, and ready to face life’s challenges.
I wholeheartedly recommend the USFT Sports ETR Training to any family seeking a program that truly puts kids first and prepares them for lifelong success.”
